Outdoor LED Parking Lot Lighting Solution

Jakarta, Indonesia Commercial Parking Lot Lighting Projec

1. Site Analysis and Environmental Challenges

The parking lot owner in Jakarta reported experiencing prolonged rainfall (up to 300 mm per month) from August to October and consistently high relative humidity (over 90%). Existing luminaires suffered from sealing issues.

The owner stated that the old LEDs required 15 minutes to restart after a power outage, sometimes resulting in no lighting and impacting parking lot operations. They desired uniform lighting at the entrances and exits without light pollution after the retrofit.

2. Engineering Lighting Solution

Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, we deployed a lightweight, intelligent system with specific hardware configurations.

Heat Dissipation and Humidity Management: We used heavy-duty housings with an IP66 protection rating, and the UL series exhibits were equipped with integrated pressure-balanced breathers to prevent moisture absorption due to a “vacuum effect” during sudden temperature drops after heavy rain.

Luminous Efficacy and Energy Density: By selecting a Tier 1 LED architecture (160 lm/W), we not only replaced the luminaires but also redesigned the energy curve. We achieved higher illuminance levels (average 30-50 lx) while reducing circuit load by 58%.

Parking spaces: A V-shaped (wide) light distribution system is used to maximize the spacing between light poles and ensure uniform lighting between vehicles.

Installation in Irregular Areas: Staggered lighting is used at the junction of aisles and parking spaces, and between columns to avoid shadows. Lighting density is appropriately increased in turning/entrance/exit areas to eliminate blind spots.

Number of Lights: Approximately 40–50 lights (estimated based on a column grid spacing of approximately 6m, 1–2 lights per span, visible area approximately 10 spans)

Site Area: Approximately 1,000–1,500 ㎡ (column grid approximately 6m x 6m, visible area approximately 15–20 parking spaces + aisles)

Light Installation Location: Installed below the ceiling/floor slab, linearly arranged along the driveway and above the parking spaces. Some lights are installed close to the columns/pipes.

Entrance/Exit: 4000K neutral white color temperature (CCT) is specified, providing better contrast than 6000K in rainy or foggy weather, and with a low-glare shield, it helps protect the driver’s vision.

3. Final Results

Using UL series LED floodlights/tunnel lights (surface-mounted/ceiling-mounted) offers convenient installation and intelligent security features. Linear LED bracket lights are used for supplemental lighting or marking specific areas.

The project met standards, exceeding international commercial parking safety standards. Energy efficiency (Uo) improved from 0.18 to 0.45, and the previously existing power outage start-up response time was also reduced.

4. Our Advantages

Supply Chain: We utilize Sosen/MeanWell drivers and high-quality Lumileds/Cree chips to bridge the gap between high-end specifications and cost-effectiveness.

UL series lighting products comply with DLC (Lighting Design Consortium) and local energy efficiency testing standards, ensuring verifiable luminous data to support high lumen output (160 lm/W).
